He is a Full Professor of Immunology at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. His research focuses on defining the role of innate immunity and inflammation during the course of intracellular bacterial infections and cancer. He earned his PhD and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA). Currently, he is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).
To date, he has published more than 240 peer-reviewed articles, which have received over 10,000 citations. In addition, he has supervised 23 Master’s students, 24 PhD students, and 39 postdoctoral fellows.
